Lisa Tallant, Psy.D.

Lisa Tallant, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist with over 35 years of experience in mental health, working with adolescents and adults in inpatient, outpatient and forensic settings. Her initial training as an art therapist emphasized the importance of an experiential approach and guiding patients to access their own power and wisdom. Her therapeutic approach is eclectic, utilizing a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and experiential models of change to develop healthy balance in patient’s lives.  She is licensed in Georgia and North Carolina, operating a virtual practice for her patients.

Dr. Tallant emphasizes the importance of body awareness and being grounded to effectively process trauma. Using breathing exercises and guided imagery to facilitate energy blocks in the body, she teaches patients to use their physical awareness as an instrument in their own healing. She incorporates creative problem solving and mindfulness skills with a style that is both compassionate and direct.  Homework between sessions is often assigned which may include art work, journaling, affirmations and gratitude.

Clinical areas of specialty include Depression, Anxiety, Eating Disorders, Dissociative Disorders, Trauma (acute and complex PTSD) and LGBTQ concerns. Dr. Tallant has extensive training and experience in EMDR and is EMDR certified. She incorporates Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing and Internal Family Systems in working with childhood trauma. Additional interests are working with patients who are going through life transitions due to aging or changing health status and those whose sensitive temperament find life to be challenging.
